Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Every Track Reviewed
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold and is selling incredibly well sitting at over 25 million copies sold on the switch despite coming out on the Wii U in 2014. It’s the best-selling Switch and Wii U game and I consider it to be the best Mario Kart of all Mario Karts. So, I thought that I could capitalize on this and review every single track. This will be in multiple parts since there are 48 tracks that I need to review. So how let’s a go!
Mushroom Cup –
Mario Kart Stadium – Out of all the starting tracks for Mario Kart’s this is easily one of the better ones simply due to how gorgeous and epic it feels. The music and fireworks make this track feel like a celebration, now does this save this track from being bland due to a simple design, kinda actually. It’s a good introduction to the game and anti gravity but I do think it could have had at least a better design. 4/10
Water Park – If Mario Kart Stadium tries to show off the anti-gravity mechanics, then Water Park shows off the under-water mechanic very well. The track again isn’t very special due to its design but I do like the water park theme even though I feel like they could’ve done more with it. It has a cool segment where you can drift with anti gravity but that’s pretty much it for the track. As a good reviewer once said, to much water. 4/10
Sweet Sweet Canon – This is a really cool one, the whole level is themed around diabetes which makes it really cool. You’ll driving through donuts and in what I can only assume is apple juice and not a questionable liquid. There’s even a section where it splits into two tracks which is cool. I really like this one since it’s visually pleasing and has a fairly well-made design, I just hope that I don’t die from sugar overload. 7/10
Thwomp Ruins – I think that this one is really well made, especially the middle section where it uses anti gravity, underwater and gliding all at the same time. It also truly feels like a ruin that we’re exploring and racing in but for me, it doesn’t really do it. I honestly can’t explain why but it might be because I’m not a fan of the ruin’s grey colour scheme but that’s just me being dumb. 7/10
Flower Cup –
Mario Circuit – I honestly don’t really care for this stage, it’s very simplistic and doesn’t really have much to it. It also has a very generic visual style compared to the rest of the tracks in this game. The one good thing I can say about it is it takes the figure eight formula and twists it up, literally. Other than that, I can’t really say much about it. 2/10
Toad Harbour – San Francisco inspired track, Toad Harbour is absolutely brilliant in how it feels like a lively coastal city with all it’s markets, boats, downhill streets and street buses. This track is packed with variety and it’s all quality. The music might also be one of my favourites and it’s just a generally pleasant track. 9/10
Twister Mansion – This one is also really cool; I love how it turns into a underwater haunted mansion which is really unique. There are so many twists and turns that it can get pretty frantic but in a good way. The only complaint I really have about it is that I’ve lost so many races just because of those fences at the end of the track where you can easily get caught and trapped. 8/10
Shy Guy Falls – This one’s also a really good one, I love going up and down through the water falls, the anti gravity is really apparent in this one and is used brilliantly. I also love how you can hear the shy guy noises in the music, this track really feels like a water fall with a mine running through it. I love the use of rickety wood planks and the water fall affects. This one, has just the right amount of water. 8/10
Star Cup –
Sunshine Airport – This one’s a really fun one where you drive through the inside and outside of an airport. You’re dodging baggage and avoiding plane’s and you actually get to take off into the air. There’s a really cool part where you get to glide back to ground where a plane is over top of you. I do you really want to see more of the inside of the airport but that definitely is a different track. Overall, it breaks enough laws to get a high score. 10/10
Dolphin Shoals – This one at base level is a pretty basic water level but with a really cool segment where you’re gliding in the water using the pipes. Then there’s the section where you get to do tricks off an eel’s back which seems really out of place which is why I kinda love it. I do think that This course could’ve done with a bit more dolphins since they’re barely existent which in retrospect could be a political statement about water pollution. 7/10
Electrodome – Another really cool themed map that reminds me of a modern music park. It’s all about EDM in this one where it feels like you’re driving in a rave. The coolest part about this is that you can see the digital path your kart leaves behind you, there’s also a really cool split in the track that takes you to all types of places. The only problem with this track is that if there’s a electricity outage, it would not go well. 9/10
Mount Wario – This is literally sex in 3 part Mario kart track. You start at the peak of the mountain and drive down a icy road, enter a cave system, then drive through a forest with trees trying to blind you and ending it on a Olympic ski course with a big air at the end. Honestly, it’s the best Mario Kart track ever created with the sheer diversity of the track that surrounds the mountain theme. 10/10
That is the first 12 tracks and 3 cups of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reviewed. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe visually is stunning and sounds amazing with some of the best track themes and design out there. I do want to note, that a 5/10 is average so the scores are a bit lower than my other review series where 7.5/10 was closer to average. It’s a good thing laws don’t exist in the Mario universe or else we would all be arrested for something that’s close to terrorism.
